e-branch users:
As announced on LibIdaho on Oct. 2nd, today we're updating all e-branch library web sites, removing the "book page" option from the list of content types when you create new content for your site. Additionally we are converting all existing book pages to the "page" content type.
Most libraries won't need to do anything.
What this means for participating libraries:
In Figure 1, below, items 1, 2, and 3 will be going away, that includes
- the book page navigation at the bottom of all book pages (Figure 1 1)
- after the update, navigation will be handled via the menu system (see Figure 2 C), and additionally, links can be added to any page from within your content (see Figure 2 B)
- the "step-through" navigation at the bottom of all book pages (Figure 1 2)
- after the update, navigation will be handled via the menu system (see Figure 2 C), and additionally, links can be added to any page from within your content (see Figure 2 B)
- the "add child page" option (Figure 1 3)
- after the update, you'll simply create a new page and assign it a parent using the menu system (Figure 2 C)
- the "printer friendly version" option (Figure 1 3)
- most e-branch site themes are already printer-friendly, so choosing to print a page via your browser will result in a friendly page

In Figure 2, item A will be going away
- after the update, navigation will be handled via the menu system (see Figure 2 C), and additionally, links can be added to any page from within your content (see Figure 2 B)

Reasons for these updates
- usability issues / user confusion - we've experienced or heard of numerous instances of folks being confused by the special features that book pages provide (almost always unwanted)
- future updates to the software behind e-branch (Drupal) will be impacting the book page system, so now is the best time to discontinue its usage
- the book navigation features are redundant since sites already have menus
- it will make e-branch sites easier to use - both for administrators and their users

During the time of the updates, you may continue to use your site. The updates will happen on the backend, and normal usage of sites should not be
affected.
The impact on your site should be minimal.
